IKUS
About IKUS
IKUS is an intercultural student organization that supports international students in Magdeburg and connects them with other students. We are an intercultural team of OVGU Magdeburg and Hochschule Magdeburg-Stendal students.
We offer the possibility to let you have intercultural experiences while making friends. For this, we organize various parties, intercultural country nights, excursion etc.
In addition, IKUS offers continuous advice and support for international students in Magdeburg. We also support newly arrived students taking their first steps in Germany. We answer questions regarding to the German authorities and give advice and help with questions and problems related to studying in Magdeburg. Additionally, we organize our welcome weeks for freshmen.
It is our goal to facilitate (the begin of new) life episodes of international students in Magdeburg, to integrate them in the German society and support them in having intercultural friendships.
Would you like to gain intercultural competences and get to know many interesting people from many different countries, work together with other students, gather (first) experience in organizing events... and have a lot of fun doing that?
Then become a volunteer of IKUS. To become a volunteer, you can write an email to ikus@ovgu.de or visit us during our office hours. The same goes for if you want to organize a cultural evening event!

Office Hours : Mondays 3:00 - 4:00 pm and Thursdays 5:00 - 6:00 pm
Our weekly office hours as well as many events organized by us take place in the InterKultiTreff (IKT), Walther-Rathenau-Straße 19, 39106 Magdeburg. Due to current renovation of the IKT, office hours are taking place in the counselling center of Studentenwerk (in August 2026).

Call for Applications for DAAD Graduation Scholarships (STIBET-Programm)
The International Office at Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg is offering six graduation scholarships for international students and doctoral candidates at OVGU as part of the STIBET program of the German Academic Exchange Service e.V. (DAAD), funded by the Federal Foreign Office (AA).
Funding Period: 3 to 5 months
Scholarship Amount:

Students: 550€ to 992€ per month

Doctoral candidates: max. 1300€ per month
Requirements:

Acute social crisis
-
Good academic achievements
-
Expected completion of a university degree or Ph.D. within the next 12 months
Deadline: 21 October 2026
Required application documents:

An informal cover letter explaining the reason for the application (describing the financial hardship, providing details on your academic progress, and information on your previous sources of funding)

Curriculum vitae

Students: current transcript of records; students who have already registered their bachelor's or master's thesis will be given priority in the allocation process.

Doctoral students Statement from the academic advisor regarding the application, including an estimate of the expected date of completion of the doctoral degree

Bank statements of the last 3 months from all accounts, if necessary, with affidavit

If applicable: Proof of current employment (mini-jobs up to 603€ gross are permitted).
Additional information:
Students in their first and second semesters cannot be taken into consideration.
Only complete applications received by the application deadline will be considered. Incomplete applications or those received after the deadline will be excluded from the selection process.
